We offer a wide range of artistic creations, including traditional sumi-e and watercolor paintings, elegant sumi-e portrait paintings, digital art fused with analog techniques, and website and app design, all crafted by sumi-e artist Sho Hosokawa.
We received the Visual Impression Award at the “JAPAN Kyoto Trade Exhibition 2025” held in Dubai.
Who is Sho Hosokawa?

He serves as the Vice President and Executive Producer at Studio ONI Ltd., where he also works as the Producer and Art Director for the ink-painting animated film Operation ONI. A self-taught artist, Sho has garnered a global following, earning the affectionate title “SUMI GOD” from admirers of his exceptional craftsmanship.

3. “Stylish Kyoto” – Colored Ink Painting (Digital)
4. “Mao and Kyoto – Blade Unleashed” – Digital Paper-Cutting & Ink Painting

6. “Shijo Bridge – Night View” – Traditional Ink Painting (Analog / A4)
7. “To-ji Temple – Passing Shower” – Traditional Ink Painting (Analog / A2)
“Joyful Kyoto,” “Delicious Kyoto,” and “Stylish Kyoto” form a trilogy themed around the subtle beauty of daily life in Kyoto, reinterpreted through a global perspective.
Line art was drawn digitally with Japanese brushes by Italian artist Mirko De Stefano, coloring was completed by Spanish artist Irene Trapero, who has previously contributed to projects at Disney and DreamWorks, adding warmth and depth through her refined sense of color.
The background incorporates the rhythm of ink lines by Sho Hosokawa, whose analog brushwork merges with digital composition to express Kyoto’s timeless atmosphere in a new cultural context.
A collaboration with digital paper-cutting artist Kanali Kanai, titled “Mao and Kyoto -Run-” and “Mao and Kyoto -Fly-.”
Kanai-san’s creations are featured in album artwork, book covers, and numerous other fields.
In this collaboration, Kanai-san designed the intricate paper-cut depiction of our protagonist Mao, while Studio ONI’s Sho Hosokawa painted the sumi-e background.
Together, their art forms converge on traditional Awa Washi paper — merging modern digital expression with classical Japanese ink painting, evoking a world of warmth and timelessness.
Here are two sumi-e (ink wash) paintings by Sho Hosokawa of Studio ONI: Shijō Bridge – Night View (analog / A4) and Tō-ji Temple – Sudden Shower (analog / A2).
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Kyoto Takashimaya, to all who visited, supported us, to the Sekaidō team, everyone involved, FUN-PRO Ltd., Kanali Kanai, Mirko De Stefano, Irene Trapero, and to the collector who purchased our artwork.
